Ghana SA Visa Agreement

As of 1 November, the governments of South Africa and Ghana have instated a new visa waiver regime that allows travellers from both countries to commute visa-free.

Whereas the prior arrangement required citizens from both South Africa and Ghana to travel through and within either territory with a visa, ordinary passport holders are now allowed to enter both countries for up to 90 days per annum without recourse to work. If those 90 days are surpassed within 12 months, however, ordinary passport holders will be required to apply for a visa to further commute to either country.

Fortunately, South Africa has also added Ghana to its eVisa list, which means Ghanaians are free to organise their visa without visiting the High Commission. The standard requirements (passport details, letter of invitation/proof of accommodation, and a bank statement) will then be verified upon entry into the country instead. Furthermore, the applicants whose passports have been waiting at the Commission for an excess of three months now are being asked to please collect them at VFS Global offices.

For any queries regarding the visa waiver regime, the Department of Home Affairs portal outlines all necessary details.
